Installing Max.NET using the automated installer

Max.NET can be installed quickly and easily through a specialized installer onto any Windows computer. The two main ways to install Max.NET are:

• Online installer:
  
  1. Go to the downloads section and select the online install option
  2. Download the installer somewhere to your hard-drive
  3. Make sure you are logged in with an administrator-priveleged account
  4. On Windows XP and earlier double click the installer to launch it. On Windows Vista and later right click on the installer and select "Run as administrator". Because installer needs to check your registry to see where 3dsmax is installed it will need administrator provileges.
  5. Follow the steps to install Max.NET for different flavors of 3dsmax. You will need to have internet.
• Offline installer:
  
  1. Go to the downloads section and select the offline install option
  2. Select the versions of platforms of 3dsmax for which you want to install Max.NET. Note that selecting more options will make installer bigger and longer to download so select only whats needed.
  3. Download and install using the same instructions as for online installer.

Checking for a correct installation

Installer will for any current version of Max.NET if it is present on your system and overwrite it only if the version you downloaded is newer. Therefore, it is safe to run the installer many times because it will not touch the files it doesn't need to.

The following files are placed into your 3dsmax folder by the installer:

• [3dsmax root]\Autodesk.Max.dll
• [3dsmax root]\plugins\Autodesk.Max.Wrappers.dll

Max.NET cannot function without either one of these files being present. You can check the current version of Max.NET by looking at file properties of Autodesk.Max.dll
